hey there, friends. have been to the grocery store, and am waiting to hear from a friend....mostly just tooling around the Intarwebs. Still glowing from my therapy breakthrough of yesterday. Did I post that here? It's nothing too personal, just don't want to be repeating myself!

I haven't seen anything Q, do share?
Afternoon Ladies and Gents.
I am having a hard time as always with coming off coffee. I just enjoy it so much. And it is really my only vice left. I don't smoke. I hardly drink. I rarely eat candy (well except at holidays like Easter).

I'm finally back. I have a couple tidbits of information... First, the Dodge Dynasty is seriously starting to worry me. It may be my imagination but I think one wheel developed a little shimmy after I hit a curb on a snowy day in January. The interior vent fan as developed a little tick. I know the rear breaks need to be redone. I wanted to sweak another 3 months out of it last January after that accident and that was about a week ago. So tomorrow, I will likely be buying a Toyota Prius. With dealer incentives the price will be about $23,500. State and federal tax credits should will come to roughly $2,300. And maybe, just maybe, Little Bear won't be embarassed by the car I drive anymore. (And if you think I'm kidding, every morning I drive her into daycare she optimistically asks, "We go Mommy car?") All that remains is making sure it passes LiquidJade's car sickness test. If it does, we will probably get it right then. If it doesn't I'll be hunting around for a Civic Hybrid. I know I posted about how uncomfortable it was for driving long distances. But the incentives that Toyota and this dealer are putting out right now make it about $2,500 cheaper than a Civic Hybrid. I can build an armrest for less than that. It also drops my 10-year breakeven cost for driving a Hybrid vs. a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris down to $2.25 a gallon of gas, which is just a little more than it is here right now. And I'll get my weekly gas consumption down to 6 - 8 gallons per week. I just love that cause I used to go through 16 gallons a week with my old Jeep Wrangler. I'm doing about 12 gallons a week in the Dodge. Sorry, I'm an engineer. I have to analyze all the angles. My second tidbit is I am now blogging at www.dipstickdaily.comEDIT: I just realized I'm daytripping for work tomorrow and will have to go to the Toyota dealer Wednesday instead.

...customers be advised...you will NEVER get there...While we're sharing transportation woes, I might as well mention the "scheduled track maintenance" that goes on every weekend on DC's Metro system: "...as we continue to try to hold the tracks together upgrade and improve the Metro system" blah blah blah. Arrgh. I get into the system on Sunday, trying to get to Lodge, which I have to go down into Mordor for. The fancy customer advisory display (full of science fiction in more ways than one) informed me that due to "scheduled track maintenance" (which, thankfully, I've come to expect and had budgeted time for) I should add "twenty minutes" to my travel time. Try an hour and a half. I waited for forty-five minutes, three times as long as the "normal" schedule allows, at the station where I get on, while trains went through the "single tracking area" (where you get to live in fear that someone, literally asleep at the switch, will drive the trains head-on into one another) and while a problem occurred one station up that they neglected to tell us about. Somewhere under Barad-Dur at the Metro Center station, a downtown changeover spot, I had the same wait for another train. I get to Lodge, literally an hour late...to find that they held things up for me, rather than find a replacement for my spot as I'd called ahead and let them know they should just do. But I'm not going to fault my Lodgies - I'm going to fault the Orcs in charge of the Metro system, or the Nazgul in charge of its funding. In any case, bear, I've bookmarked your blog - I like political blogs and am pleased to add yours to my "collection". ;D I look forward to hours of entertaining and informative reading. That's once I can get through this next sampling run. What this fieldwork experience has taught me is that I'm just not cut out for it. Hate the heat, hate the sun, hate the bugs, whatever...don't get me wrong, I'm all for Nature...in theory. Tomorrow and Wednesday we go out, I may also have to go out Friday, almost certainly will Saturday, maybe Sunday, and on into next week. The overtime's great, but this isn't exactly when I wanted it, see? It always works like that doesn't it. I'll get on here when I can, though my visits might be short as I rest and rehydrate for the following day. It's only really busy for the next three weeks or so, then somewhat for the remainder of the next two months...though they may set it up so it's fewer hours a day seven days a week instead of longer periods for just five. Working from home may or may not be a rarity, when I have time for my regular project, which is of course continuing...

good morning, good morning. Yesterday was an exciting day in Qira's Scholastic World. I spent some time writing down 400 terms or so, maybe 300, something like that, for my computers class. Today I will continue writing out the definitions for each onto notecards. Also turned in my semester-long project on Judy Chicago. It's like letting go of something really precious....there was so much more I could have done with it. But the assignment was only so big, you know? Can only do so much within the confines of what is given. Today, I study Russian Avant-Garde painting, Impressionism, German Expressionism, Cubo-Futurism, Constructivism, Neo-Primitivism, and maybe some later stuff. If I can keep it all straight for the final on Monday I'll give myself a gold star! This week I'll also be attending a leadership development course at my church. ("my church" still sounds odd to me...) And then also going to a visioning team meeting or two - the visioning team thing is the project of the Board of Trustees to work with the congregation on developing five- and ten-year goals. Fun stuff. Anywho, it remains super-hot here - and humid, which as we all know, makes it worse. It's not as humid as it will be in the summer proper, but it's still stickier than, say, where you live, Shannon. Starting tomorrow, though, it's to be cooler, and full of thunderstorms, which makes Qiras happy. (My first ever pagan name was "Thunderbrand," after my passion for lightning and thunder....big freak of a twenty-five-year-old that I was.) Hope everyone's well. Chat later? ~Q~
