(I can't get the link on my phone so google the Evil Eye by Hakim Bey.) Because I can never accept that life just generally sucks sometimes Iusually need to find a reason,so with that I wound up finding a pretty interesting article on the evil eye. I understand that what I said above indicates that I feel the need in some way to control my destiny; if I can find the culprit, I can actively exert change. Knowing this is helpful even if it's still mildly superstitious. And I am very much into the psychology of magic and superstition- finding an underlying, simple explanation for them. (Example: two travelers who split a pole between them are bound for bad luck, to me, indicates that underneath it all the pedestrians aren't in sync, and this is bound to cause problems.) What really interests me about this article's description of mal occhio is the concept that we can subconciously see or 'read' something so desperate and angry and bitter in another person's eyes, that it begins to effect our own perceptions of our lives. The author talks about the subtle nuances of gesture and speech when people communicate and how in modern times this art is lost to us and we fall prey to these toxic interactions without realizing it. Anyway, find a moment to read it yourself and share your thoughts. Sorry if I seemed a bit ramble-y.
