I know, you guys are excited.. "E's going on another rant about home birthing".
It is just such an important topic to me. The insanity that is hospital birth versus the calm comfort of home birth. Although, those of you who are new to my rants on this need to know I am not giving MEDICAL advice or direction. I am a home birther. I can tell you from EXPERIENCE that my home birth was an infinitely better experience than the one hospital birth I submitted myself to.
I just read an article (http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1898316,00.html?xid=rss-health) that states very clearly, Home Birth has 5 (FIVE!) times less infant mortality that hospital birth! THAT is the truth that the billion dollar birth industry will not tell the common woman. The woman who has a RIGHT (!) to know her options, her safety, the TRUTH!
Here are the numbers:
99% of births in the U.S. are hospital births. The United States ranks 29th in the WORLD in infant mortality. That means that 29 other countries have better survival rates in their newborns!
Yearly, the U.S. averages 6.71 infant deaths in every 1,000 hospital births. Far eastern countries average 3.5 deaths per 1,000 births (they rely at least 70% on midwives). Home birth averages 1.7 deaths in 1,000 babies born.
Now, let's run with these numbers... 5(!) fewer babies died in home birth circumstances!
I am going to post V's birth story again. Any objections?
