Do you use the elements much in your practice? How so?
I've been trying to make more of a connection with the elements recently - meditating on them, and incorporating them into things like my altar and placing elemental symbols around my home. I really feel like they are the building blocks of my magical practice, and I should know them better.
Red Ronin:
Are we speaking in the literal sense or more figuratively?
My favorite way of connecting each spring is to visit a local forest and going into the deep woods. I have a spot there where I simply sit on the bank of a small creek (earth), put my feet in (water), sit there feeling the breeze (air) and sunshine(fire) on my face and pracitce my meditations.
Doesn't have all the hooplah and pizzaz of a lot of rituals, but then I tend to be much more low key in how I do things.
I think a lot of people have difficulty in dealing with the elements as they don't exist in the pure form in our plane and really aren't intended to be separated from one another. To do so creates imbalances that tend to cause more problems than are solved.
Fire requires air and fuel from the earth. Earth contains moisture and the trees, etc. require sun and air to grow. Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen and contains dissolved minerals. The air includes water vapor, dust and such. This synergy of elements is better kept in mind as well when doing one's workings.
Kylaskye:
I want to, really.
Until now, I've been mostly about simplicity.. But I'm beginning to feel like there's something more.
While I never really felt the need to cast a circle, I do want to start calling upon the elements more.
I agree that they are the essential, and in my opinion are present in everything.
Meditating on them is a good idea... Maybe I'll try that soon.
