Trees!

It's spring where many of us live and the trees are waking up. Here in the DC area the trees that blossom before leafing (such as the famous cherry trees) are in full blossom mode and many others are starting to green up. Those allergic to tree-snot have refilled their prescriptions and/or bought stock in the facial tissue industry. Got me thinking about trees. This is a Grove, right? (At least it says so on our label). So, what's your favorite tree motif? The abstract higher worlds of the Qabalistic Tree of Life? The mind-bending majesty of Yggdrasil? The oak grove in your local park? The Ogham "Tree Alphabet"? Ents? Any favorite tree species? Why? Any you don't get along with? Why? We have some Desert Southwest type members also; anything special you do for tree stuff out there? (Me, it varies between Yggdrasil and the Qabalah one, but that's something most here could guess. I've had some fun with the Ogham concept as well). I'll finish with a pic from my trip. I really need to remember to bring that adapter along next time!

I'm a bit partial to the Tree of Life motif... any sort of design which includes the tree and its roots. I have this ring: For actual trees, I'm particularly fond on Hawthorns - I just wish we had some around here. As to the why - there was this patch of Hawthorns where I lived in Ireland that I used to walk past. I called it my fairy path. They just had a nice feel to them, and I liked watching them go from flowers to leaves to berries. I like flowering trees in general. I also like Willows and Birch trees a lot. I can't say I don't get along with any trees... though I'm not particularly fond of evergreens in general. I'm not generally drawn to anything which is so unchangable, being more a creature of cycles and mutability.

Nice. I like Oaks, but then again I'm boring. (There are also pleasant childhood memories of collecting acorns as the weather started to cool off. No, I do not live in a nest in an actual tree). Birch is cool too, what with all the peely bark and all. Around here there are Sycamores which we didn't have up north. These can get huge and look for all the world like the White Tree of Gondor, especially considering how frequently they are dead around here. Oh well. (Come to think of it, when I first saw RotK I remember thinking, oh, a sycamore, what's the big deal? No white flowers on the real trees though).
I like evergreens because they remind me of home. However, I like Yew trees the best of that lot, and they weren't especially prevalent up there.
