(Yeah, Dune wasn't as great for Desert Insight as I had thought.)
I've been giving alot of thought to the seasons here, taking a page from BR's book about developing my own wheel, and have got a bit of a prototype going. (Would love to get other desert-dweller insight on this... ) From Feb to April we have First Spring. Which I'm also considering as some sort of pregnant Spring, as she's full with the promise of a hot summer. From April to July we have the Hot Harvest, a time for heat-hardy plants. Then July-September we have the short but wicked Monsoon season...akin to winter except a cleansing through scouring sand and rinsing rains. Then Septemember - November is Second Spring where we have a bit of reblossoms, cooler weather and this, I think, is a resting Spring....a last blush spring...because then from Novemeber- January we have the Cold Harvest for cold-hardy plants and quiet, chilly days. I'm also looking into the Tohonon Calendar to get some inspiration...they didn't have four seasons but went month by month, moon by moon. I don't know what the heck I'm going to make of 'moon when the deer mate'. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Things are completely insane right now, though, because we're getting these completely rare rainstorms. I'm usually not an alarmist when it comes to Global Warming, but shit...for days it's been dripping and pouring, moist and there are earthworms all over my patio. This never. ever. happens. It's like living in Seattle (or what I imagine living in Seattle must be like.) So I wonder, would the Tohono's have seen this as a blessing, a sign of pleasure from the Land? Does it foretell a hot and horrible summer for the record books?
