Well, I came out of the house this morning and there was frost on the lawn and on the car... so Happy First Frost (aka Samhain aka Summer's End aka Start of Winter) from Philly!
The moon was really freaking bright and pretty last night, too. Seemed a bit sad, or something, though. December's full moon is something called the frost moon, so it was pretty damn good timing, too - at least in these parts.

Oh that's a happy sign Blackrose! I love winter and will miss it when it vanishes due to that Nonexistent Phenomenon Move Right Along Nothing To See Here. The moon looked great this morning on the way out, bright and full with fall haze in front of it. Of course now, it's raining again...chance of thunder tonight...geez I wish that dope would stay out of my neighborhood...

Yeah, the moon did look really cool this morning here, too. Couldn't see her last night, though, because it was overcast. I do find it funny that on the first day after the first frost it's a sunny 65. *rolls eyes and shakes head with a smile*
I'll miss autumn, though. Really I'm only looking forward to winter for decorating. I hate decorating for Solsticemas when it's still warm out. Heh.

Well you could always handle decorating the way I do... ...also housework the way I do, too... ...though if truth be told I might not recommend it...

I started my holiday shopping ages ago so I wouldn't have to get stressed at the last minute stuff... but I am not being inundated with my family's insanity with their own last minute stuff that I get to help them with. Yay...

I hit modify on your post, BR, instead of replying so that's why there's an edit. I hate being an admin. Holiday stress. Not even close to being done with our shopping. Have to travel up to Payson in a few days for dinners and visits. Then we have company from the 24th to the 27th. AND we're hosting another big (30+people, at least) party on the 26th. (We found some super cute shot glasses made from peppermint, though.) I could pull my hair out. Not really. I like my hair. Last night the kids had a winter concert at school and it was adorable. But I have to say the highlight was when my biggest ham, Titan, walked onstage with his class to sing Hip Hop Reindeer, pumping his fists in the air like a mini- Eminem. Totally got into it, and I think he may have actually believed it was HIS concert and we were all his adoring fans. I'll never tell him any different. ;D

OK might as well revive GM again with this story. Next week I am going to go up into the mountains in Virginia to visit a few sites for my job. For this purpose I get to rent a car (that is always an adventure in itself, and I'm sure I will soon have posts about stuff like that) and I have been issued a GPS. Oh lucky me. After getting it to acquire initial satellites, a process that took nearly an hour (I probably shouldn't fault it, I have enough trouble finding the kind of "satellite" you poop in) I took it in and played with it, entering local addresses and points of interest to be sure I could read the directions and the maps. No problem. Problem? The damn thing has no record of this house! I wandered about my apartment trying to see when it would say I was at home; apparently inside my apartment I can visit several neighbors without having to go outside. Outside, I garnered strange looks from said neighbors as I tried to determine when the thing would say I was home. It didn't. One guy out smoking on his porch asked what I was up to (it's after dark, after all) and didn't get it when I told the story ("Dude. You live over there", and a funny look), and in the end, I decided that like the MVA (another amusing story), it simply has no record of the place. I tried turning it off and then on again. If I ask it where I am before it has had a chance to warm up, the poor creature literally tries to tell me I am in Kansas.Oh well, I looked at the terrain where I am going to be visiting and have determined that a good 80% of the time its satellites will be blocked by one or another mountain anyway. I'll be purchasing an old-fashioned map, visiting Google each evening, relying on the sense of direction I inherited from my mother (I know, sense of street direction is kind of a Realtor thing. I swear, I'm not...), and using the GPS as backup or to calculate trip times. Hopefully none of this will end with me in a ditch. I'll also be giving my Dad a call. He's a retired rocket scientist who, among other things, worked on the GPS satellite system, and he's about due for a piece of my mind.

So hello!
Den and Shannon have sufficiently poked me that I thought I'd come and peek in.
Items of note -
I have been accepted into Wesley Seminary (www.wesleyseminary.edu) where I will begin studies in the fall.
I am graduating from undergrad this spring.
I have four classes, and they are cool, but/and challenging.
I have begun a job at the Unitarian church as a wedding coordinator.
I am mad, mad, mad busy, but I do keep up with email, so feel free to let me know what's up!
I'll try not to be such a stranger!
Qira

Good to see you around, Q! Keep comign back. Karate today, and while I dread having to go, once I'm there, seated, and watching it's one of the most relaxing parts of the day. Ben was laid-off again, for what they said would only be 2-3 weeks, and then hopefully they'll all be back to work full time.

News: my job is planning to steal me for a whole month. I'll be traveling around Michigan and living out of hotel rooms. (And yes, given that I'll be visiting much of the state by car, there is a good chance I'll be seeing a certain little town - so that in effect, my job is sending me to Hell. Ha, ha, ha.) I'll miss the Lodge vernal equinox, which is a disappointment. This trip will likely mean two things. One, I'll only be able to visit once in a while, since I'll have my work laptop with me and I don't like the idea they may spy on me. On the other hand, they probably won't, so I'll likely check in here at least once in a while. Two, I'll be traveling, without all my magazines and videos and other pop culture bullshit. And when I don't use those to occupy my mind, it tends to start working, and then I tend to Think About Things. (What a pain.) This will happen especially on the road, where I'm likely to find myself enmeshed in all manner of distracting speculations, many of which are likely to involve subject matter that it is appropriate to post here. So you might end up hearing more from me, rather than less. I hope this is good news. This week anyway I'll still be around here and getting ready. So I'll probably be stopping by again multiple times in the next few days. While I do so I'll look into more smileys, if people like. But better than that, I'll even try to post.

So here I am posting from...too far away...well, depending on where you are, maybe not too far away from you, but too far away from me...erm...oh you know what I mean. One thing I am maybe too close to is Canada. Now, I like Canada, it's a great country and every time I've visited it I have been very happy with my visit, but that was all before 9/11 and I currently lack a passport, which means that on this trip the relevant bit about Canada is that I am close enough to it that if I miss my turn getting back to the hotel I might not be able to get back to it at all. And since all the books I brought with me for the evenings will be in this room, that is very relevant indeed. Maybe I should bring that Spinoza with me when I go out, just in case. [Time was you could go to northern Minnesota and go back and forth across the border by accident, enjoying the beautiful scenery (especially since everyone accepted both currencies at face value and flew both flags), and no one especially cared. Time was. That was nice, but I can't risk it this week.]So, how did I get out here you might ask? Well, I followed my company's suggestion: I climbed into a big metal bird and flew here. Ludicrous, I know. I complimented my supervisors on their sense of humor only to earn some kind of snark about how a seventeenth-century Vulcan was going to fare at airport security. [A book dart? They think I'm going to hold up a plane with a book dart? I am reminded of the scene in one of the Riddick movies where the prison guards are so terrified of Vin Diesel with a sardine key. Only, I am considerably less imposing than Vin Diesel. Imagine, Spinoza with a bad buzz cut holding up an airplane with a book dart. The only scary thing is how much that fantasy proves that our TSA is on drugs.]Oh, and I read somewhere that if you see the number 444 it means "the angels are with you". So guess what number features heavily in the first address I have to visit. Only, if so this would prove the angels far less humorless than I thought, and with rather a sick sense of humor after all: because the address in question is that of a slaughterhouse.Wish me luck.
