Our cats freaked when they saw us outside when we moved to the house. We had lived on the second floor in our apartment building. I think they didn't realize we could be outside on the same level as them.
They also didn't understand the idea of "stairs" and didn't want to walk up and down them.
I gave my presentation today that I've been preparing for over the last 4 months. It was really nice. I didn't expect I'd enjoy giving it as much as I did. Lunch was BBQ chicken and ribs. Not exactly low cal but tasty.
I'm going to have to figure out how to do more of these. My next one is in March, same topic different audience. Beyond that, nothing yet.

Yeah, when we first moved into the house, Nox didn't want to go downstairs. He knew stairs from the apartment, but stairs always meant outside, which seems to mean vet. The first time I carried him down the stairs at the new house he dug his claws into me so bad, but I wouldn't let him go and once we got down and he saw "oh, this is still inside... and, look, there's the cat tree" he started loving the stairs. He lays on the landing a lot. Now we have our very own basement cat. *grins* (Reference from LoLcats, for those not in the know.)

Heh...I'd forgotten about LOLcats...oughta go back over there sometime. This morning during my first non-work net session I encountered today's big news, that Obama won the Peace Prize. Now I respect the man and all, and I agree with his ideals, but the one thing I'd say is that he appears to have won the prize for his plans...if it were a choice between the prize and the plans actually working, I'd take the plans working (though this does appear to be a tactical move by the Nobel Committee, to aid said plans). They're good ideals and good plans, but there's this whole chickens/hatched thing going on. Oh well. The fact that I substituted world news for my news should tell you that, nope, not a whole lot is going on with me. Now that it's October, of course, there's Samhain to look forward to, and all the cheapie Halloween stuff in the shops to enjoy, plus I have my eyes out for likely-looking horror movies in the theater or for favorites I'd like to own on sale at the video store. But no news, really. Everybody have a good day/good weekend as the case may be.

Yeah, I think the world did a collective, "what?" but I think it had more to do with snubbing Bush than anything Obama has done.
A coworker asked me when Little Bear started school. So I figured it out today. 22 months. OMG! She can't be that close to kindergarten. I also figured out if they put her on mornings, we are screwed. I don't know how either of us will he able to pick her up at 11:30am. I'd have to work 1am to 11am or something. I doubt he boss will be agreeable to that. If they put her on afternoons, I could at least work 4:30am to 3:00pm.
How reasonable are schools for letting parents pick morning or afternoon kindergarten?
Strong rumors are going around that we will be put back on 5 x 8 hour days with flextime. Which means I could probably go back to my 9 hours x 9 day work schedule. Or I might continue on 10 hour days but work it so I have 4 day weekends every other week.
Oh, and a cute story. Mrs Bear was smudging the house. Little Bear was helping her. She asked if she choukd smudge me. Mrs Bear handed her the smoldering cedar and sage stick. I got down on my knees. Little Bear held up the smudge stick, started waving it side to side, stuck out her tongue and said, "Blurba-blurba-blurba" like Jonny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Got some stuff done this weekend. Finished the molding in the downstairs bathroom. Unfortunately, when I went to take off the painters tape, it took the wall with it in places, so I have to touch that up. Grr. I have to touch up a few other places, though, too, 'cause I didn't think the use Killz before I painted, and the yellow they had is rather persistent.
We also got one of the closet doors off and painted and remounted. We'd planned on replacing all the doors with wood ones, but the one is 18" and, apparently, they don't make 18" bifold doors anymore, and I didn't want to have to pay for a special order. So we're still planning on replacing the others, but just decided to keep and pant the little guy.
Lastly, even though my outdoor HAlloween decorations that I'd ordered didn't arrive yet (*pouts*), I did get the window done yesterday, with the lights and the clings. Still have some more to do, like the downstairs lights. I always underestimate how much time this shit'll take.
Oh, and I have an audition tonight. I haven't been in a show since last October, because I haven't really had the time, inclination or energy, but I'm kinda bored, so we'll see what happens.

That's adorably funny, Bear.
Well my appliances are in the house, and we're using the refrigerator.. The cabinets arrived yesterday, and are getting hung today. We let them set overnight to acclimate from being in a warehouse to being inside. Tonight we'll go look at and hopefully pick out a sink and faucet.. So with luck by the end of the week I'll have my kitchen back!!!

We never did do our bathroom remodel. Maybe in the next couple of months. I had to postpone it because my old Dodge was giving out and I needed the money for a down payment on the Prius.
That electric fireplace we bought two years ago crapped out. So we had to ship it back to the factory for warranty repairs. Just in time for winter too. Also, I think by the time the weekend arrives, I'll be starting my 3 weeks of leaf raking.
I caused a ruckus on a teleconference today. EPA HQ was telling us the proceedure for doing something. I told them, "Really, our grant agreement with you says to do exactly the opposite." They are going to get back to me on that one.
Oh, and the fan for the HVAC in ourside of the building went out this week. So all the hot air in our building is drifting down to our end. Estimated repair time: 2 weeks. I'll be wearing a lot of t-shirts between now and then.
Well, I'm going to go find someone to kill the last hour of the day with by chatting. Its too hot to work.

So...yesterday, here, it was buttf*ck cold and raining.
Today, it's buttf*ck cold and raining.
Tomorrow, says the weather forecast, it'll be buttf*ck cold and raining.
And the forecast for the next day? Wait for it...

...um yeah, buttf*ck cold and raining. (I defer to more sexually active people concerning the anatomical accuracy of the temperature descriptor). Otherwise, I'm working from home today, and the heat's not on yet. No rush. As usual, I have the odd trait of actually liking to be cold. I am wearing sweats, a nightshirt over those, and the Vulcan meditation garb I mentioned in some other thread. In a little bit I'll shove off and actually meditate. For now, I'm fighting the level of typing skills that come with possibly-nerve-damaged hands and a room temperature of around 50 degrees (F). Loving the fuzzy-warm feeling of being, in a sense, well dressed, and drinking hazelnut coffee, though. Any event, glad to hear everyone's kitchens are coming together - can't mull hard cider or mead without a kitchen! - and I hope the raking is manageable. This year I don't do much raking because the landlord is marketing the place downstairs, so he's often here being picky about the yard on his own. Other years I've done it to be nice and for the outdoor exercise, though, or because I often like yard work. But I live in a tree heavy neighborhood also, so believe me I understand.

I'll have you know that it is in the mid 80's this week. I think a trip to butt f*cking cold at this rate.
I know that it was our choice to move here (houses are CHEAP) but good god man, seriously? It's HOT.
This is where you say, "Way to state the obvious" and rool your eyes. ;D

Yesterday... Well yesterday here was no end of gorgeous, and I had a full dance ticket: a major ritual at the Lodge, in which I was an officer so I kinda-sorta had to be there, and following that other similar stuff there, in which I wasn't needed but I would have liked to participate. But sadly I had to leave as soon as I could be spared anyway because (as usual, but I need the money so I don't mind) I had extra work to do. So it begins. I get there in mid-morning to do a bunch of the paperwork (you can tell a ceremonial tradition because the rituals involve actual paperwork) and to get the various candidates to actually meditate instead of gossiping about who's just listed this property, who'd like to show that one, and who just sold what else for such-and-such an amount...( Ugh!...why do they talk about that?...don't tell me, I know I'm in denial about something...real estate is sooooo boring!!!...now where'd I leave that book of pesticide regulations?)...and make sure we have the necessary supplies. Somewhere in there we also have to get everyone registered, and it's a worldwide organization which is usually a really cool trait except when (a) everyone's documentation is in a minimum of four languages with no guarantee of any in common and/or (b) Microsoft Turd auto-corrects half of your last names into something insulting. At least, those are the Babel-related drawbacks which applied in this case. Then we did the major ritual, which was awesome, nothing inappropriate caught fire either or anything like that, and at that point I had to go...took off running...I almost get to the subway station and it turns out that the Lodge people noticed my absence and sent a carload of real estate agents (where'd they get those? Oh yeah, forgot it's like we advertise at NAR or something - damn space elves) after me, and the one at the wheel is asking, hey, you think you can do that puff of smoke thing? Where you just vanish? What makes you think we won't notice? - And I say I have to work and they all laugh. Then I realize I have just told a bunch of Realtors, a whole pack of 'em, that I'm the one who can't stick around because I have to work on Sunday. Do the math. Gotta admit though, I'm kind of flattered that people cared that I had to leave...good friends and all...I somehow get home despite the Starship Enterprise subway being crowded and late due to a bunch of crazy people who want to run for 26 miles downtown people leaving a marathon. Then time to do my own daily personal ritual/meditation, which gets me high this time, because not only have I already done a bunch of ritual stuff today but I yield to temptation and do this one loud-and-intense enough to make the local dogs bark, thus also scaring my neighbor - the one who has told his children to stay away from me because I am a "sorcerer" (sadly, he doesn't mean that in a cool way, like someone around this place might). So this time I'm going to have to chill out for a while before I can do my butt-load of mundane work. *Catches breath* At that point I realize I've had nothing to eat all day, and I don't feel like preparing anything, so chocolate it is!...The upshot being, it's like eleven o'clock last night before I'm done with my total acid-trip of a day, and I have to get up at four; the take-home message being, two Red Bulls and ceremonial ritual are a less-than-ideal mix. ...While I have other good reasons, this, my friends, is why I will never have children.

Argh!
The train was super late today, because of "equipment failure". I got into work, like, 70 minutes late. My place has this policy that you have to make up late time in the week it occurs, and I'm not in tomorrow, so I have to make up 70 minutes today.
After that wonderful start to my day, I've been in for about 30 minutes and have already been bombarded with annoying shit, at least half of which I've already dealt with, and the other half being a project for getting stuff off the mail server, which means copying stuff onto discs, which only 8 of us can do in an office of over a hundred, and of course everyone's waiting until the last freaking minute, and I want to start killing people now...

I'm catching a little break right now. Work is slowing down for me a little. Mostly I'm waiting for the money funding project to catch up with the project schedule. In other words, projects are getting delayed because we are waiting on our next round of funding to come in.
Hopefully not more than another couple weeks.
Unfortunately, work never really picked up for Mrs. Bear at the tattoo shop as we hoped. And now we are about to head into the slowest three months of the year.
At samhain, a friend made a sarcastic joke about how economists are saying the market has recovered. Little Bear looked at her and said, "No, its killing everybody."
Otherwise, things are moving along. My dad is recovering from his shoulder surgery. My mom is mostly recovered from her laps in May/June.
My iPhone app is coming along. The programing is 90% done. I just need Mrs. Bear to do the 20 or so illustrations for me and it will be done.
I'm also about 25% of the way through the developer pre-registration, meaning registering my business name and getting a business license. I need to work on that some more today.
I hope everyone is well.

We're going through that funding thing too. That reminds me...I still have to sign this year's ethics statement. It's not much different from last year's. Word on the ground is that Wall Street is recovering some, but Main Street has yet to see it. Even here, where we're a bit stabilized by the presence of a major employer (the federal government) who is also one of the last big spenders left, you can still see it. More homeless people. Everyone's a cheapskate. (Hey - at last people will join Mr. Tightwad over here for cheap coffee and matinee movies instead of insisting on expensive cocktails at The Priciest Club In Town ). Still a lot of depressing "For Sale" signs, that remain up for months and months. Nope, any recovery hasn't hit us ordinary citizens yet, and may not for a while. On the plus side, we might stabilize at a more sustainable spending level than we were in before...people able to enjoy life and have secure lives without all that excess and debt, debt, debt. One can but hope. Glad to hear your family is recovering, hope you get your funding quick, and hope to see you around here some more soon!
